FAQ

Welcome, friend
If you’re here, you probably care about what’s going on your skin just as much as what’s not going on it. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about our handmade, small-batch skincare.

What is beef tallow skincare?

Beef tallow is a traditional, time-tested ingredient used in skincare for generations. It’s a rendered fat that closely resembles the natural oils found in human skin, which makes it deeply nourishing and long-lasting.

At Hippie Hick Crafted Apothecary, we blend tallow with simple, skin-loving ingredients to create rich, whipped butters, balms, and body care products designed for everyday use.

Is your skincare all natural?

Yes, our products are made with simple, recognizable ingredients. We focus on Phthalate Free, Formaldehyde Free, and Paraben Free ingredients.

Are your products safe for sensitive skin?

Many of our customers use our products on dry, sensitive, or easily irritated skin. Because our formulas are made with minimal ingredients, they are often a great option for people looking to simplify their skincare routine.

That said, everyone’s skin is different patch testing is always recommended before full use.

Do your products contain fragrance or essential oils?

Some of our products are scented, while others are left unscented for. those who prefer a simpler option.

If products have artificial fragrances or flavor oils, they will be called out in the ingredients list.

Where do your ingredients come from?

We source our ingredients thoughtfully, focusing on quality, sustainability, and simplicity. Our tallow is rendered in small batches to maintain purity, by myself. All tallow either comes from our small family herd or our local butcher. Our oils and botanicals are chosen for their skin-supportive properties from reputable suppliers.

Are your products handmade?

Yes everything is handcrafted in small batches right here on our family farm in Wisconsin’s Driftless Region. Nothing is mass-produced.

Small batch means we can focus on quality, consistency, and care in every jar.

Will tallow clog pores?

Tallow is considered non-comedogenic for many people because of its similarity to the skin’s natural oils. However, every skin type is different, so results can vary.

If you’re acne-prone or unsure, start with a small amount and observe how your skin responds.

How do I use whipped tallow body butter?

A little goes a long way. Warm a small amount between your fingers and apply to clean, slightly damp skin for best absorption.

It can be used on hands, body, elbows, legs, and anywhere that needs extra moisture.

Why does the texture sometimes change?

Because our products are handmade and not factory-stabilized, slight variations in texture, color, or scent can happen depending on temperature and natural ingredients. This is normal and part of small-batch skincare.

Also, if the room you’re storing your butter in is colder you body butter will be stiffer, but if the room is warmer it will be lighter and fluffier.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are typically processed within a 3 to 5 business days depending on the time of year. Shipping times vary depending on your location and carrier, but most packages arrive within 3–7 business days after shipping.

You’ll receive tracking information as soon as your order is on its way.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Because our products are skincare and made in small batches, we cannot accept used product returns. However, if there is an issue with your order, please reach out we always aim to make it right.

Are your products vegan?
